Head of Strategy and Content– PHD China

 

Ian began his career with PHD UK in 2007 where he oversaw planning on the Manchester City Football Club, and IRN-BRU accounts and helped IRN-BRU deliver a Cannes Media Lion Gold.

In 2012, he moved to Dubai and joined PHD Middle East as Planning Director, overseeing planning on the agencies’ key accounts including Arla Foods, Estee Lauder Companies, Canon and Bentley.

In 2014, Ian was promoted to Director of Strategy - a pivotal role in new business development, which saw him enhance the agency planning output and innovation agenda and deliver a record back to back pitch conversion of 17 pitch wins.

In 2016, Ian was named Head of Strategy and Content where he led Strategy and Planning for the agency and oversaw all content marketing activity and Social Media, applying data and analytics to deliver excellence in planning.

In 2018, Ian moved to Shanghai to lead as Head of Strategy and Planning, where he oversees Strategy & Planning for the HSBC, VW, Porsche and Google accounts.

Throughout his career, Ian has been passionate about creativity and challenging conventions in media planning, something recognised externally with award wins from EFFIE, Dubai Lynx and MENA Crystals.

Ian is a confident public speaker who represented PHD at the 2017 Dubai Lynx Festival, discussing the Sharing Economy and the likely impact on the Middle East region. Ian was also a contributing author for the 2017 PHD Book ‘Merge’ and enjoys debating and writing about the constant flux the media industry is in and has acted as a regional judge for WARC’s MENA Prize for Strategy.

Ian has Member status of the Institute of Advertising Professionals (IPA), and is currently studying for a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
